Valley of geysers

Geysers are one of the rarest and most unique phenomena on the planet. At certain intervals, a fountain of hot water and steam breaks out of the ground with a roar, rising to the height of tens of meters. Stunning with its suddenness, beauty and power, the fountain erupts for a while, then disappears, clouds of steam dissipate, and a state of rest comes. Large geysers can be observed in only a few regions of the world - Iceland, New Zealand, Chile, Yellowstone National Park in the USA and the Valley of Geysers in Kamchatka.
долина гейзеров
Kamchatka Valley geysers is unique in its compactness: several hundreds of bubbling springs, mud boilers and geysers are concentrated on an area of 4 sq. km. Kamchatka geysers are not inferior in strength and height of eruptions to other large geysers of the globe. The largest of them is the Giant Geyser, gushing to a height of up to 40 meters, and clouds of steam can rise to several hundred meters. There are about 20 large geysers in the Valley.
The Valley of Geysers is located on the territory of the Kronotsky State Biosphere Reserve among the mountain ranges of the eastern part of Kamchatka in the canyon of the eponymous river - Geysernaya. The paths to it are long, complicated and confused, and in addition there is a reserved regime - a hike through the territory of the Kronotsky Reserve is allowed only when accompanied by an inspector and by prior request. Therefore, this unique place is visited mainly by helicopter excursions and very rarely in pedestrian category trips.
The Valley of Geysers was discovered quite recently, in 1941, by the employee of the reserve Tatyana Ustinova, while the Kronotsky Reserve has existed since 1934. Tatyana Ustinova and her guide Itelmen Anisifor Krupenin went on a dog sled in search of the left tributary of the Shumnaya River in April 1941. Having found the expected tributary, the researchers went upstream, but the weather began to deteriorate, and they were forced to turn back. But suddenly, from the opposite bank of the brook, a fountain of boiling water burst out straight in their direction. So the first geyser was found, later called the Firstborn. For the second time, in July of the same year, Tatyana Ustinova and Anisifor Krupenin have already walked around and described this unique natural object.
гейзер Великан
We went around the entire active part of the valley, described all the geysers, documented the stages of their activities and gave them names, not perpetuating each other, but for reasonable reasons. The largest geyser is the Giant. Geyser beating out of the slit - Slit. Geyser, which during the eruption beats out with water from three holes - Triple. Found us in the spring - Firstborn. It was interesting to work, but also scary. We did not know the regime of sources. At any moment, from the slope along which we passed, a stream of boiling water could spill on us ... It turned out that in the tent under the sleeping bags the soil felt cold to the touch so that we slept like on the stove...
Tatyana Ustinova
In 2007, a giant mudflow descended and blocked the bed of the Geysernaya River, as a result of which 7 geysers were under the rubble and about 10 were flooded by the formed lake. Subsequently, the water washed the landslide dam, and most of the flooded geysers began to gush again in the same mode. A new landslide, descended in 2013, freed many old geysers, and new ones were formed.
