Volcano Mutnovsky

The Mutnovsky volcano is not like a classic cone-shaped volcano, but it is one of the most interesting and visited volcanoes in Kamchatka. It is formed from several cones and lava flows of eruptions, merged into a single massif. The highest point of the volcano is 2323 meters above sea level, but the summit itself is of little interest to tourists. The main volcanic activity is concentrated in the northwestern part of the massif, where there are two craters in the form of a figure eight with a diameter of 2 km and a depth of 600 meters. In the western crater there is an active funnel, in which one of the largest fumarolic fields in the world is located. A powerful pole of steam-gas emissions comes out from its depths, sometimes rising to the height of kilometer. The temperature of fumaroles here reaches 500 ° C.
In the northern crater there are two fumarolic fields - the lower and upper. The first field is massively visited by tourists, here you can come close to fumaroles, "smoking" from the crevices and small cones of volcanic sulfur. In addition to fumaroles, there are boiling water and mud boilers, and even fountain hydrothermal emissions can be observed. A massive glacier creeps up to the upper fumarolic field - a real battle of elements of ice and fire takes place here. The crater of Mutnovsky volcano is, perhaps, the most beautiful and interesting among the craters of active volcanoes of Kamchatka.
Мутновский вулкан
The river Vulkannaya flows through the rift in the north-western part of the crater. Slitting the slopes of the volcano, the river forms a deep and steep canyon Opasny, falling into it with a powerful 80-meter waterfall.

The path to the crater of the Mutnovsky volcano lasts only a couple of hours, if you drive up on an off-road car to the area of the canyon Opasny. From here, a trail leads to the northern crater of the volcano, first along the slopes of the volcano, and then along the glacier, under which the river Vulkannaya is hidden.
Дачные горячие источники
At the northern foot of the Mutnovsky volcano there are Dachnye thermal springs, which are also called the Small Valley of Geysers. Here, in addition to hot springs, you can observe boiling mud pots and, in some cases, effects of gushing.

There is also a unique Mutnovskaya geothermal power station, which converts the thermal energy of the earth into electric energy. Its power is about 60 MW, and this is about one third of the needs of the cities of Kamchatka.
